Install adb and fastboot on Ubuntu

The official Ubuntu "Phablet Team" (part of the Ubuntu Touch developers) maintains a PPA that makes adb and fastboot available. So I would figure that's a trustworthy source to get those tools:

Prepare Ubuntu

  1. Open a terminal:
    CTRL + ALT + t
  2. Add the PPA:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools && sudo apt-get update
  3. Install adb and fastboot:
    sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot

Prepare Android

In order to be able to use those tools you need to enable USB debugging on your Android device:

  1. Activate the developer options:
    SettingsAbout phone ⇨ Tap on Build number like crazy.
  2. Enable USB debugging:
    SettingsDeveloper optionsUSB debugging
